Philadelphia Awards $1.9M in Overdose Prevention and Community Healing Grants | Prevention Fund

Background

June 8th, 2023, The City of Philadelphia announced the first round of grantees for the Overdose Prevention and Community Healing Fund – Managed by the Thomas Scattergood Behavior Health Foundation. From the national opioid settlements, the Prevention Fund invests in community-based organizations as trusted messengers and provides prevention resources to areas of the city most impacted by the overdose crisis. It is estimated that Philadelphia will receive $200 million over 18 years from multiple pharma companies, which is part of the settlement of the nationwide lawsuit distributing funds to communities around the country affected by the opioid crisis. The first payout brought $20 million to the city. This event awarded $1.9M out of the $20M to 27 nonprofit organizations. One of USALA’s hosts, Britt Carpenter’s nonprofit “Philly Unknown” was one of the organizations awarded!
