The Wall

Edwin Desamour

Listen to “The Wall” on Spreaker.

The Wall is sponsored by the Violence Prevention Grant from the city of Philadelphia.

The Wall is a new show for parents and teenagers navigating difficult topics – making conversations more productive, learning the thoughts and concerns on both sides of the wall.
Edwin Desamour was born and raised in North Central Philadelphia. Edwin’s life experiences have inspired him to pursue a career serving the youth in his community.

At age 16, Edwin was convicted of 3rd degree murder and spent over 8 years in prison. When he returned to the community, he felt a sense of urgency to prevent young people from making the same decisions; and demystify conceptions about prison and the lifestyle he formerly led.

Edwin was offered an opportunity to provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution through the Philadelphia Anti-Drug Anti-Violence Network (PAAN). Following his work with PAAN, he worked as an Education Specialist at Women Organized Against Rape, raising awareness about violence and sexual assault. He also worked for Congreso, as the Latino Juvenile Justice Network Coordinator.

Edwin’s passion to make a positive impact on the community lead him to create MIMIC: Men in Motion in the Community. As founder and Executive Director of MIMIC, Edwin’s goal is to motivate other men to help decrease violence in the community through mentoring and prevention strategies.

Currently, Edwin spends his days at John B. Stetson Charter School. He is a behavior specialist for seventh graders. Upon leaving Stetson at the end of each day, he reports to Waterloo Playground – to help manage the daily activities at the playground while providing workshops and after-school programs for at-risk youth.
