Moves Unfiltered (ENG)
with Karis Painter
|Friday||11:00 am||11:30 am|
Press Conference replaces Moves Unfiltered during normal rotation. One airing of show mid-month on Fridays.
Karis is curious and passionate. She is a storyteller, artist, and advocate. Karis began studying classical ballet as a child and performed in the Philadelphia area. Throughout college and her early work experiences, Karis continued to dance in her free time. The sounds of salsa music in the streets of New York City and on the subway moved her to start taking mambo lessons. From one dance to the next, Karis’ curiosity for learning different styles of dance flourished as she studied tango, flamenco, and Latin hustle.
Her cultural journey continued as she worked in China, Italy, Vietnam, Morocco, and Chile. While teaching in international schools overseas, Karis sought out dance communities to fuel her passion for expressive movement. She studied contemporary dance in Rome, belly dance in Vietnam, cueca in Chile, and folklórico in Argentina. She is dedicated to making movement accessible to all through chair yoga classes and she recently completed a Dance for Parkinson’s training with the Mark Morris Dance Group in Brooklyn. Karis is also a photographer and artist whose work has been featured in shows in the United States and Milan. If you are ever in an airport, you might catch Karis dancing in the waiting area.
