Marcell A. Bellinger Native New Yorker and Temple University alum, Marcell Bellinger studied under world-class trumpeter Terell Stafford. Bellinger is a band leader, arranger and composer who has had the opportunity to share the stage with many jazz greats which include but are not limited to: Jerry Harris, Phil Woods, Randy Brecker, Charles McPhearson, Jesse Green, Dave Liebman, Benny Golson, Urbie Green and Philadelphia’s “Rented Mule.” Along with jazz performances,
Bellinger has made several appearances with Jeff Bradshaw’s former R&B group Brass Heaven and a special performance with Chuck Brown and The Roots. In addition to playing trumpet in many venues around the metropolitan area, Marcell has worked as a solo piano player in venues such as The Chart House and Hibachi Steakhouse, both located on the pier in Penn’s Landing. Aside from his many gigs in Philadelphia, Bellinger has performed in New York at Orbit, The Garage and Dizzy’s Coca Cola Club and in bands on various Carnival cruise ships.
During his time in graduate school, Marcell has been called upon to coach young musicians at the Calhoun Summer Jazz Camp in Manhattan. He has done similar work at the COTA Jazz Camp in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania. In May 2012, Marcell completed his graduate work at New Jersey City University. He studied trumpet under Joe Magnarelli and composition with pianist Joel Weiskopf. After graduation, Marcell was given the opportunity to perform and teach at the Birch Creek Performing Arts Center in Door County, Wisconsin. After completing work at the BCPAC, Marcell taught beginning jazz theory and served as a trumpet teaching assistant at the Jazz House Kids Summer Jazz Camp in Montclair, New Jersey. Now residing in Philadelphia, Bellinger is an instructor at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts and a Teaching Artist for Jazz House Kids.
