Born in Puerto Rico, Dr. Rivera was actively involved in labor movements in Philadelphia and New Jersey. His area of expertise is Latin American Literature and Cultural Studies in Latin America, Human Rights – and its impact on political behavior.
At the University of Puerto Rico, Inter American University of Puerto Rico; National Autonomous University of Mexico; University of La Salle and University of Stockton – Dr. Rivera taught courses emphasizing Latino politics, such as: Identity and Assimilation; The Ethnic Experience, and Latino population in the United States; Ethnicity, Gender and Class in the Mexican American and Puerto Rican Experience; literature; pre-colonial, colonial, and modern history; native, immigrant, and diasporic experiences; politics; socioeconomic conditions; religion; social structures and architecture.
In addition to his academic accomplishments, he has participated in local radio and television programs as a political analyst for Univision 65 Philadelphia. He is a consultant and trainer on diversity who speaks about Latino and diversity issues. For eight years he was a member of the Latino Puerto Rican Affairs Committee of the Mayor of Philadelphia, and the founder of The Latin Cultural Association of Atlantic County in New Jersey.
